ለኢትዮጵያ ጤፍ፤ የመገኛ አካባቢ Geographical Identification (GI) እውቅና አሁኑኑ ሊሰጠው ይገባል።
6.2 ሚሊዬን የሚሆኑ የኢትዮጵያ ገበሬዎች በንጥረ ነገር የበለፀገውን ጤፍ ያመርታሉ። በዚህ ሂደት ለብዙ ሺ ምዕተ ዓመታት የቆዬ ቢሆንም፤ የአውሮፖ ህብረት አምራቾች እና ገበያው ይሄንን አስደናቂ የጤፍ እህል ለጤፍ የመገኛ አገር ኢትዮጽያ በቂ እውቅና ሳይሰጡ ኢ-ፍታዊ በሆነ መንገድ ከፍተኛ ትረፍ በማግኘት ላይ ተሰማርተው ይገኛሉ። ጤፍ ለእኛ የኢትዮጵያውያን የምግብ ዋስትና ማረጋገጫችን እንዲሁም የማንነታችን የጀርባ አጥንት ነው። (ከጤፍ እህል የሚዘጋጀው እንጀራ 100 ሚሊዬን የሚሆኑ ኢትዮጵያዊያን የዕለት ተዕለት ቋሚ ምግባቸው ነው።)
ጤፍን በአሁኑ ጊዜ በአውሮፖ ያደረጉ የግብርና ድርጅቶች እያስፋፉት ይገኛል። ይህ እየሆነ ያለው ግን ለኢትዮጽያ በቂ እውቅና እና ለትክክለኛ አምራቾቹ የአገራችን ገበሬዎችም የባለቤትነት መብት ሳይሰጥ ነው። የገበያ ትስስሩ የጤፍ አምራች አርሶ አደሮችን ያገለለ በመሆኑ ምክንያት፤ አገራችን በቢሊየኖች የሚቆጠር የዶላር ገቢን እንድታጣ አድርጓታል። በተመሳሳይ ጊዜ በአውሮፓ ያሉ ተጠቃቂዎች ከባህል እና ስነምህዳራዊ አውድ ባፈነገጠ መልኩ ከባለቤቶቹ የተነጠቀውን ይሄንን ምርት ካለበቂ መረጃ እና እውቀት በመግዛት የብዝበዛ ሂደቱን አስቀጥለዋል።
የአውሮፓ ህብረት የጤፍን የመገኛ አካባቢ እውቅና እና ጥበቃ በኢትዮጽያ (GI status) ስር እንዲሆን እስከአሁን ድረስ እውቅና ባለመስጠቱ፤ የፍትሐዊ የብዝሐ ህይወት ክፍፍል የሚደነግገውን የንግድ ስነምግባር እና የናጉያ ፕሮቶኮል ህግ የሚጥስ ነው። የአውሮፓ ህብረት የኢትዮጽያ የጤፍ ዘር ባለቤትነትን ንጥቂያ እንዲፈፀምም እያደረገ ነው። ለዚህ ጥፋት የተቀመጠ ቅጣትም የለም። በዚህም የተነሳ ጤፍ እና የጤፍ እህልን በመጠቀም የሚዘጋጁ የምግብ አይነቶች የባለቤትነት መብትን ለራሰቸው አውሮፓውያን ለማድረግ እየተሯሯጡ ይገኛሉ፡፡ በተቃራኒው ለጤፍ መገኛ ለሆነችው አገራችን የመገኛ አካባቢ እውቅና (GI status ) መስጠት ጊዜ ሊሰጠው የማይገባ ነባራዊ ሁኔታ ከፊታችን ተጋርጦብናል፡፡ ይህ ፊርማ ማሰባሰቢያ ለአፍሪካ ህብረት እና ለዓለም አዕምሯዊ ንብረት ጥበቃ ድርጅት፤ ኢትዮጽያዊያን እና አፍሪካውያን በኢ-ፍትሐዊነት ለሚነጠቁት ሐብት ለሚደረግ ትግል ተምሳሌት ይሆናል። የተባበሩት መንግስታት ድርጅት የትምህርት፣ የሳይንስ እና የባህል ድርጅትም፤ ቅርሶችን በሐላፊነት ለማስተዳደር የተጣለበት አደራ ላይ የጤፍን ቅርስነት የሚያበረክተውን አስተዋፅኦ በማከል ሊቆምለት ይገባል።
ጊዜው እያበቃ ነው። እ.ኤ.አ በ2027 ከጉልተን ነፃ የሆኑ ምግቦች ገበያ እስከ 16 ቢሊዬን ዶላር ድረስ እንደሚያድግ ይጠበቃል። በአውሮፓ ያሉ ድርጅቶችም የጤፍ አምራችነት ቦታን ለመቆጣጠር ውድድር ያካሂዳሉ። አገራችን በበኩሏ የጤፍ የመጀመሪያ መገኛ እደመሆኗ መጠን የመገኛ አካባቢ እውቅና (GI status) የሚያሰጣትን ህግ አርቅቃ ለሁላችንም የጋራ ጥቅም ለማስከበር በመጠባበቅ ላይ ትገኛለች።
አውሮፓ ህብረት በዘላቂነት መተባበር (CSDDD) ላይ የወጣው የጥረት ህግ እና የአፍሪካ ህብረት 2024 "የትምህርት ዘመን" ላይ የተቀመጡ ነጥቦች የጋራ ተጠያቂነትን ማንፀባረቅ ይኖርባቸዋል። የአገራችን (GI status) መዘግየት ደቡብ አፍሪካን ለ20 ዓመታት ያህል በአውሮፓ ህብረት ዘንድ የመገኛ አካባቢ እውቅና ለማሰጠት የለፋችለት Roobios tea ላይ የደረሰባትን ኢ-ፍትሐዊ እጣ ፈንታ ሊያስደግመን ይችላል።
ከአሁን ጀምሮ እንቅስቃሴው ቢጀመር ግን የአውሮፓ ህብረት የተፈጠረውን የባለቤትነት ጥያቄን በመቀበል ማስተካከል ይችላል። በተመሳሳይም የዓለም አዕምሯዊ ንብረት ጥበቃ ድርጅት እና ዩኔስኮ እገዛዎችን ማድረግ አለባቸው።

Teff (*Eragrostis tef*) is an ancient grain that has been cultivated in Ethiopia for over 3,000 years. It is a staple food in Ethiopian cuisine and is renowned for its nutritional properties and cultural significance. Teff is the primary ingredient in **injera**, a sourdough flatbread that serves as a base for various dishes and is shared among families and communities, symbolizing unity and togetherness.

In Ethiopia, Teff is more than just a food source; it is a vital part of the country's cultural heritage. It is deeply woven into the fabric of Ethiopian society, appearing in traditional dishes and during important events and celebrations. The grain represents resilience, having sustained countless generations through environmental and socio-political challenges.
Growing Global Interest
In recent years, there has been a significant rise in global interest in Teff, fueled by its health benefits and versatility in cooking. As consumers become increasingly health-conscious, Teff is being incorporated into various products, including flour, snacks, and breakfast cereals. The demand for Teff has surged in countries such as the United States and Canada, where it is recognized as a gluten-free alternative to traditional grains.
The Need for (GI) Status
Despite its growing popularity, the unregulated international market poses risks to Teff's identity and the livelihoods of Ethiopian farmers. Currently, **over 15 foreign companies** have trademarked Teff-derived products, often at the expense of Ethiopian producers (WIPO, 2022).
